Claudio Bravo was the hero as Chile advanced to the Confederations Cup final with a 3-0 penalty shootout win over Portugal. Claudio Bravo was the hero as Chile advanced to the Confederations Cup final with a 3-0 penalty shootout win over Portugal. With Portugal falling in PK's against Chile, the FC crew wonder if it was smart to keep Ronaldo as their final PK taker. The FC panel gets heated when another instance of potential VAR usage goes unused for Chile against Portugal. Chile's previous three tournaments had all come to their conclusion with a penalty shootout. There were the victories against Argentina in the 2015 Copa America and last year's Copa Centenario, but 12 months earlier -- on this very day, June 28 -- they went out of the 2014 World Cup after a shootout defeat to hosts Brazil. On that occasion they hit the woodwork with the last kick of the 120 minutes, Mauricio Pinilla thumping a long-range shot against the Brazilian bar. So they must have feared...

Baked Plantain Spring Rolls

A friend introduced me to a Filipino recipe called Turon, which is a sweet plantain spring roll treat. As soon as I saw the recipe, I knew what my version would taste like. And in line with my (somewhat) healthy resolutions, I baked them instead of frying so they are still crispy without the greasiness of an average spring roll. Here’s the recipe below, enjoy! Ingredients   1/2 ripe plantain   8 spring roll sheets (found at local grocery store/Asian store)   Handful shredded cabbage   Sliced onions   1 minced garlic clove   2 tsps crushed chilli pepper   Chicken pieces (optional)     1/2  tbsp oil   Olive oil (for brushing)   1 tbsp soy sauce Instructions Cut plantain into eight equal pieces length-wise and set aside. In a small pan, heat oil and lightly fry onions and garlic until they become tender then add the soy sauce Add chicken pieces, cabbage an...

Cosmetics could increase health risks

Image
Scientists have raised the alarm over the dangers cosmetic products pose to health. According to findings of a North Western study, complaints made against beauty goods more than doubled from 2015 to 2016, with hair care products topping the list. However, these notices go largely without consequence because the United States, U.S, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require the products to be pre-approved before they are released to consumers. Experts are warning these vastly unregulated products can lead to serious injury, disability and even death for customers. The report was issued by Northwestern UniversitySchool of Medicine in Evanston, Illinois in the U.S. According to the university, there was more than 5,000 events reported to the FDA from 2004 to 2016, with 1,591 incidents reported in 2016 alone. Researchers said cosmetic manufacturers aren’t required to notify the FDA of the adverse health concerns, meaning consumers are largely unaware of the dangers cert...
