Meet Notorious Kidnapper, Evans' Lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, Known For Advocating ‘Infamous Case

Just when Nigerians thought no lawyer will step out to defend notorious billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, Voice Olukoya Ogungbeje has proven an exception. Ogungbeje who heads Lawflex Chambers and is the Chairman of Voice Vanguard, stepped out Wednesday. He grabbed the headlines as he filed a fundamental rights suit on behalf of Evans, by dragging the Inspector General of Police, and three others before a Federal High Court in Lagos over Evans alleged illegal detention. Joined as respondents are the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police Lagos State, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command. In his fundamental rights the confessed kidnapper is seeking a court order directing the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him. He is in the alternative, seeking an order, compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any offence warranting a charged.

FG releases requirements for employment for 2017 N-power applicants (See List)

– Applicants for 2017 will be required to go through a list of processes including application, pre-selection, physical verification etc. – The 2017 application is expected to close on Thursday, July 13 – Only applicants whose BVN records match their applications will move to the assessment stage A new process for recruitment was rolled out by N-Power, the employment scheme of the federal  government  on Friday, June 30 via its Twitter handle. The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) has issued a one-week ultimatum to the Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to cause the release of promotion letters of all members of staff who passed the last promotion examination or face industrial action. In the letter signed by the union’s Secretary General, Olayinka Abioye, NUATE also petitioned the Ministry of Transportation, Murtala Muhammed Airport Command, and other unions, saying it had placed other branches on alert on its plan to shut the agency should the agency not accede to its demands. UK deports 28 Nigerians

The  government of the United Kingdom (UK) yesterday deported about 28 Nigerians for breaching their immigration laws. The deportees arrived in the country via the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMlA) Lagos at about 12.13pm on board a chartered Titanic Airways with registration number AWC-761/2. Spokesman of the Lagos Airport Police Command, DSP Joseph Alabi, confirmed the deportation to Aviation Correspondents and said the deportees comprised 21 males and seven females. On ground at the Lagos airport to receive the deportees were officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Police and officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The deportees were profiled by immigration authorities and were each given a stipend to facilitate their transportation to their respective states.

NEC Extends Duration of FG’s Financial Support to States

The National Executive Council (NEC) Thursday extended the lifespan of the federal government’s financial support to various states of the federation, to cushion the biting effects of the recession. Rising from its monthly meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in the State House, Abuja, the council also said it resolved to extend the support in view of pending settlements to some states and local governments. Briefing journalists at the end of the meeting, Gombe State Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, who said the council also received the report on the forensic audits of the ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), gave the balances in various federation accounts as of June 28. ‘Notorious Boko Haram terrorist’ arrested in Borno – Nigerian Army

Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, deployed to Buni Gari in Borno State, said they have arrested another suspected Boko Haram terrorist. Sani Usman, the Director Army Public Relations, made this known on Thursday in Maiduguri. Mr. Usman, a brigadier general, said the suspect, 20, was arrested by the troops on June 25 while on perimeter patrol. Trouble continues for Aregbesola as Osun pensioners picket state secretariat over unpaid pension arrears

Rauf Aregbesola Pensioners in Osun State on Friday stormed the State Secretariat and locked put workers in continuation of their protest to press home demand for payment of their pension arrears and gratuities. The pensioners started the fresh protest on Thursday and continued early Friday morning before workers could arrive for work. The protesters locked the main gate as well as the second gate thereby preventing workers from going inside. The pensioners chanted war song. Some of them blocked the gates, while others lined up with placards beside the main road raining abuses on the governor. Evans), has again dragged the Inspector General of Police, and three others before a Federal High Court in Lagos over his alleged illegal detention. In the new suit filed on Thursday, Evans is claiming N300 million as general and exemplary damages against the police for alleged illegal detention and unconstitutional media trial. Joined as respondents in his new originating motion are the Nigeria Police Force, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.
