NLC Hails Wike On Payment Of Workers’ Salaries, Pension
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has lauded the Rivers State Government for its regular payment of salaries and pensions to its workers and pensioners.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt last Friday, the NLC National President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, shortly after an interface with workers said that, the leadership of the organised labour are happy with the security, purposeful and committed leadership of the state Governor, Chief Barr Nyesom Wike, especially on the issue of the welfare of the workers.
Wabba said that, he has been directed by the leadership of the trade unions in the country to express their gratitude to the state governor, particularly on the issue of regular payment of salaries to the workers unlike in some other states.
The NLC boss stressed that the trade unions appreciate the good governance being exhibited by the state government because the trade unions are aware that in some states, they have difficulty in terms of regular salaries payment to their workers.
He said that due to difficulty in the regular payment of salaries to workers, some states have even contemplated retrenchment of the workers, adding that the union will resist such moves.
He explained that the congress was impressed by the testimonies of the workers, that payment of salaries in the state are up to date with retirees gratuities paid.
He tasked the state government to continue to maintain such gesture, commitment and dedication to the workers as the primary responsibility of any government is the welfare of the people.
The NLC leader urged the state government to look into the payment of promotion arrears of the workers, stagnation of promotion as alleged by the workers over the years and providing conducive working environment for the workers even as he pledged the unflinching loyalty of the workers to the state government.
