PDP: Aftermath of loss, Sheriff claims he's in shock
Ousted national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has said that he received his sack by the Supreme Court with shock.
While he said that he was still waiting for his lawyers to brief him on the judgment, Sheriff however called on all members and supporters of the party to remain steadfast in prayers for Nigeria.
The Supreme Court had on Wednesday upturned the judgment of a Port Harcourt Court of Appeal which authenticated Sheriff as the national chairman of the PDP. The apex court then declared Ahmed Makarfi the party national chairman.
But Sheriff, on Thursday in Abuja, reacted to the outcome of the case that has lasted for about two years, through a statement released by his former deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh and his faction ex-spokesperson, Mr. Bernard Mikko.
The statement read, “We received with shock the 12th July judgement of the Supreme Court on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“Though we still await the full written judgement of the highest court from our lawyers who will fully brief us on the details of the judgement, in the interim, we ask all members and supporters to remain steadfast in prayers for Nigeria.
“Meanwhile, we continue with our avowed demands that the party must be given back to the owners at the grassroots to always elect their party officials and those to contest elections for them at all levels. Internal democracy must be institutionalized in the party.”
Sheriff’s final sack was sequel to unanimous decision of a five-man panel of Justices of the Supreme Court which effectively ended the long-drawn leadership tussle between him and Senator Makarfi.
